Initialement fondee sur la lecture des textes des Anciens, la geographie de la Grece antique se developpe aujourd’hui aussi comme une geographie de terrain, s’appuyant sur la geomorphologie et l’archeologie, et d’autre part comme une geographie des representations, celles des Anciens et les notres. Huit exposes comparent les termes et concepts (“region”, “territoire”, “paysage”, etc.) que ces geographies variees emploient a propos de la Grece, pour preciser les conditions d’utilisation des uns et des autres et juger leur portee heuristique.
