English Summary: Sarkophagi are a group of monuments, which belongs to the core area of art and culture of the Imperial Roman as well as the Early Christian and Byzantine Empire. In this volume of the Repertorium der christlich-antiken Sarkophage are published, for the first time, all the examples from Constantinople, the capital of the empire, as well as those in Asia Minor, in the provinces Syria, Palaestina and Arabia. This catalogue includes detailed descriptions and numerous illustrations. Introductions for each group put the material in a broader context.

halben Jahrhundert begonnene Repertorium
der christlich-antiken Sarkophage und erfasst
erstmals auch den östlichen Mittelmeerraum,
der bislang in der Sarkophag-Forschung relativ
wenig Berücksichtigung gefunden hat.
(...)
verstehen.
