Karolingische Schriftkultur
Aus der Blutezeit des Lorscher Skriptoriums

Der Karolingerzeit verdanken wir die Entwicklung der modernen Schrift und zahlreiche der wertvollsten handschriftlichen Kulturzeugnisse der Menschheit. Diese Schriftkultur wird in einer reprasentativen Tafelsammlung sichtbar gemacht, wobei die kostbaren Handschriften des Reichsklosters Lorsch und der Aufstieg seines Skriptoriums den Schwerpunkt bilden.
Die Publikation veranschaulicht karolingische Kulturgeschichte anhand von Schrift und Schriftprasentation in den Handschriften. Illustriert wird der Wandel von der vorkarolingischen Vielfalt bis zum Spatstil des ausgehenden 9. Jh. Die Sammlung versteht sich ausserdem als Lehrwerk zurFruhgeschichte der karolingischen Minuskel, die Modell des modernen Schreibens, Druckens und elektronischen Publizierens in Blockbuchstaben ist. Erstmals findet die Handschriftentitelseite als Forschungsgegenstand Beachtung. Diese gilt als Erfindung des Buchdrucks, was anhand alterer Traditionen und der Prasenz in den Lorscher Manuskripten widerlegt wird. Schliesslich werden Aspekte der Textanthropologie behandelt, indem gezeigt wird, wie sich der Mensch in den Schrifttragern zu erkennen gibt, wie Ausbildungshintergrund und Textarbeit Spuren hinterlassen haben und Individualitat von Geschriebenem offenbaren. So ergibt sich ein imposantes Panorama aus der Blutezeit mittelalterlicher Schriftkultur. Aktuelle Forschungsansatze und Forschungsergebnisse werden in leicht rezipierbarer Form prasentiert.
