Since 1902, the “Jahrbuch der Deutschen Bibliotheken” (Yearbook of German libraries) has been published every other year providing information on staff, organization, collections and the budgets of over 700 academic libraries. It contains names and addresses, telephone and fax numbers, email addresses and websites, as well as the range of their holdings, detailed information on the nature of the holdings, the size of textbook collections, purchasing budgets, opening times, the number and grading of employees, names of academic staff, publications on each library and, where appropriate, information on statutory copies, official document collections and on collection building in specialized subject areas.

Es enthalt Namen und Anschriften, Telefon und Faxnummern, E-Mail-Adressen und Homepages, des Weiteren den Umfang der Bestande, genauere Angaben zur Art der Bestande, den Umfang der Lehrbuchsammlung, die Hohe der Mittel zur Bucherwerbung, Offnungs- bzw. Ausleihzeiten, Anzahl und Einstufung der Mitarbeiter, Namen der wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter, Veroffentlichungen uber die Bibliothek und gegebenenfalls Angaben uber ein bestehendes Pflichtexemplarrecht, eine Amtsdruckschriftensammlung und uber besondere Sammelgebiete. Ferner nennt es bibliothekarische Ausbildungsstatten, zustandige Ministerien und zentrale Institutionen des deutschen und internationalen Bibliothekswesens. Ein Personenverzeichnis informiert zudem uber die wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter der im Sachteil verzeichneten Bibliotheken, uber weitere Bibliothekare in leitender Funktion sowie uber die im beamtenrechtlich geregelten Vorbereitungsdienst stehenden und die im Ruhestand befindlichen Bibliothekare, meist mit den wichtigsten Angaben zum beruflichen Werdegang.
