English summary: This book sheds light on the interaction between Jews, Muslims, and Christians in medieval Spain, on Jewish and Arab philosophy of the time, and on Moses Maimonides’ legacy for the present day. The works of this philosopher, legal scholar, and physician are not viewed in a continuum of Jewish philosophers (such as Saadia Gaon and Judah Halevi), but are instead examined as part of the cultural and intellectual currents in al-Andalus and Old Cairo. Reference to the Almohad revolution in particular serves to elucidate characteristic aspects of his work: the codification of religious literature, the prominent status of philosophy, and the popularization of religious and philosophical education.
