Historisches Worterbuch der Philosophie Gesamtwerk. A – C
edited by Joachim Ritter and Karlfried Grunder
This series is one of the most important, elaborate, and also most successful book projects of modern German-language humanities. It distinguishes itself from all other philosophical dictionaries by its method of presentation, the conceptual historical method. In contrast to encyclopedic or systematic-dogmatic dictionaries, which provide a descriptive explanation or definition of terms, it gives and documents the origin, the first occurrence, and the history or the change of meaning of a term from the Greeks to today on the basis of precise evidence.
