The Roman frontier in Lower Germany was one of the earliest to be created; surviving into the early 5th century, it illustrates the whole range of Roman military installations. The Rhine delta boasts incredible organic remains including ships while upstream are great military bases supported by forts and fortlets.
Die Grenzen des Romischen Reiches bilden zusammen das am grossflachigsten erhaltene Monument eines der grossartigsten Weltreiche. Sie erstrecken sich auf mehr als 7500 km uber 20 Lander rund um das Mittelmeer. Schon seit einigen Jahrhunderten werden die Uberreste dieser Grenzanlagen von Besuchern, und spater auch von Archaologen, untersucht. Viele der Inschriften und Skulpturen, Waffen, Keramik und andere Gebrauchsgegenstande, die von den in der Grenzzone lebenden Soldaten und Zivilisten hergestellt und benutzt wurden, konnen heute in Museen besichtigt werden. Ebenso erinnern auch die physischen Uberreste der Grenzanlagen an die einstige Macht Roms. Der Zweck dieser Buchserie ist es, den interessierten Besucher uber die Geschichte der Grenzen zu informieren aber gleichzeitig auch als Fuhrer zu dienen.
