The aim of the Turco-Italian Archaeological Expedition at Karkemish, directed by Nicolò Marchetti (Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna) since 2011, is to implement a long-term research strategy seeking to elucidate the history of the town, explore its urban layout and cultural sequence through the ages. Within this framework, this final report on the 2012-2014 excavations in Area G, located to the West of the Lower Palace Area, at the foot of the Acropolis, presents the results on the chronological sequence of the Inner Town of Karkemish as well as the significance of this area for the reconstruction of the urban layout of this site. Beside the stratigraphic analysis of the structural evidence and the characterization of material culture, three Appendices on zooarchaeological, paleobotanical and numismatic studies are included.
