Die Bischofshofe waren wichtige Zentren kirchlicher Herrschaftsausubung. Als Wahlmonarchien bildeten sie aufgrund der weitreichenden Mitbestimmungsrechte korporativ verfasster Kommunitaten und wegen ihres hohen Grads an Institutionalitat wichtige Vorformen moderner Staatlichkeit. Die Studie entwickelt erstmals ein Strukturmodel spatmittelalterlicher Bischofshofe. Dies geschieht am Beispiel des Konstanzer Hofs der Jahre von 1306 bis 1356, dessen Furst neben seinem im Bodenseeraum und der heutigen Ostschweiz gelegenen Hochstift das grosste Bistum nordlich der Alpen regierte. Die Untersuchung verknupft traditionelle Bischofs- und Diozesangeschichtsforschung mit modernen Fragestellungen der Hof- und der Stiftskirchenforschung.
