In 1799, one of the most important gold hoards of the European early Middle Ages was discovered near the village of Nagyszentmiklos (then in the Kingdom of Hungary, now Sannicolau Mare, Romania). The contributions in this volume discuss goldsmith techniques and the possible connections between the treasure and the culture of the Sasanian Empire.
Im Jahr 1799 wurde nahe des Dorfs Nagyszentmiklos (damals Konigreich Ungarn, heute Sannicolau Mare, Rumanien) einer der bedeutendsten Goldschatze des europaischen Fruhmittelalters entdeckt. Er besteht aus 23 Goldgefassen mit einem Gewicht von insgesamt fast 10 kg.
