In der zweiten Halfte des 16. Jh. statteten die Furstbischofe von Eichstatt ihre Residenz auf der Willibaldsburg mit reprasentativen Gartenanlagen aus. Diese Garten waren schon bald wegen ihrer heimischen und vor allem fremden Pflanzen weit beruhmt. Der Nurnberger Apotheker Basilius Besler veroffentlichte 1613 ein Buch mit Kupferstichtafeln all dieser Gewachse – das “Hortus Eystettensis”.In vorliegendem Prachtband sind samtliche Bildtafeln wiedergegeben und kommentiert, daruber hinaus wird das Werk in seinen historischkulturellen Kontext eingeordnet.
