Das Grab des frankischen Konigs Childerich I. ( 481/482) zahlt zu den Schlusselfunden der fruhgeschichtlichen Archaologie. Es wurde bereits 1653 im belgischen Tournai entdeckt und zwei Jahre spater vom Leibarzt des habsburgerischen Erzherzogs Leopold Wilhelm in barockem Latein unter dem Titel “Anastasis Childerici I. Francorum regis, sive thesaurus sepulchralis Tornaci Nerviorum effossus” publiziert. Dieses Buch von Jean-Jacques Chifflet ist noch heute von grosser Bedeutung, denn ein Grossteil der Funde ging 1831 in Folge eines Einbruchs in die Bibliotheque royale in Paris verloren.
