Lucas Cranach d. A. (1472-1553) zahlt zu den bedeutendsten deutschen Renaissancekunstlern. Sein wichtigster Auftraggeber war Kardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg, fur den Cranach zur Ausgestaltung der Stiftskirche in Halle den umfangreichsten Gemaldezyklus der deutschen Kunstgeschichte fertigte. Als Albrecht 1541 vor der Reformation fliehen musste, gelangten viele Kunstwerke ins “Exil” nach Aschaffenburg. Der Kontext, in dem die Ausstellung 150 Exponate, davon 60 Tafelgemalde, prasentiert, vermittelt ein lebendiges Bild des Reformationszeitalters.
