Lucas Cranach d. A. (1472-1553) zahlt zu den bedeutendsten deutschen Renaissancekunstlern. Sein wichtigster Auftraggeber war Kardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg, fur den Cranach zur Ausgestaltung der Stiftskirche in Halle den umfangreichsten Gemaldezyklus der deutschen Kunstgeschichte fertigte. Als Albrecht 1541 vor der Reformation fliehen musste, gelangten viele Kunstwerke ins “Exil” nach Aschaffenburg. Der Kontext, in dem die Ausstellung 150 Exponate, davon 60 Tafelgemalde, prasentiert, vermittelt ein lebendiges Bild des Reformationszeitalters.

Herausgeber: Dr. Gerhard Ermischer (Historiker, Archaologe) ist Kurator und Stadtarchaologe an den Museen der Stadt Aschaffenburg. Forschungsschwerpunkte: Kulturgeschichte des Mittelalters und der Fruhen Neuzeit. Prof. Dr. Dr. Andreas Tacke (Kunsthistoriker, Architekt) ist Lehrstuhlinhaber fur Kunstgeschichte an der Universitat Trier.
