Il panorama dei collegi universitari a Roma non e affollato. Bisogna attendere la seconda meta del Quattrocento per veder sorgere un organismo dalla fortuna duratura: il collegio fondato dal cardinale Domenico Capranica, che sopravvive fino ai giorni nostri. A questo si ispiro, negli ultimi decenni del Quattrocento, il cardinale Stefano Nardini per progettare, ancora a Roma, una istituzione simile, in seguito denominata Sapienza Nardina. Il collegio risulta attivo poco dopo la morte del fondatore, nel 1484; ma non dovette avere mai vita facile: dopo un lungo periodo di difficolta l’istituto sara sciolto definitivamente alla meta del XVIII secolo. La prima parte del libro traccia la storia del Collegio Nardini; la seconda contiene l’edizione di documenti di varia provenienza che interessano la storia dell’istituzione, in gran parte qui pubblicati per la prima volta.
