C’est a l’occasion de l’exposition Pharaon, Osiris et la momie (du 19 septembre 2020 au 14 fevrier 2021), que le catalogue de la collection egyptienne du musee Granet d’Aix-en-Provence fait l’objet d’une nouvelle publication, vingt-cinq ans apres sa premiere edition. Cet ensemble s’est constitue principalement au xixe siecle grace aux nombreux dons et legs d’antiquites collectionnees par les amateurs d’art aixois, confirmant ainsi la vocation culturelle et artistique de la ville, issue d’une longue tradition de princes, de nobles, de riches marchands, de bourgeois et de mecenes, qui des le debut du xve siecle vont attirer de nombreux artistes dans la capitale de la Provence. Sous une forme modernisee, cet ouvrage comprend les notices de l’integralite des objets qui constituent la collection avec toutes les mises a jour necessaires, tant pour la bibliographie que pour l’interpretation d’uvres importantes qu’il est possible de mieux comprendre aujourd’hui. Christophe Barbotin est conservateur au departement des Antiquites egyptiennes du musee du Louvre depuis 1986. Auteur de nombreux ouvrages et articles, il est specialiste en philologie egyptienne ainsi qu’en histoire de la sculpture du Nouvel Empire. On lui doit notamment la premiere edition du present catalogue en 1995.
