Il Chronicon bellunense (1383-1412) di Clemente Miari e una narrazione di memoria storica che sta alla confluenza di vari generi: la cronaca propriamente detta, il libro di famiglia, il diario personale. Il testo originale, scritto in latino e pervenutoci attraverso un codice autografo, e rimasto fino ad oggi inedito (ne esisteva unicamente una non sempre felice traduzione italiana dell’Ottocento). L’autore, Clemente Miari, un canonico della cattedrale di Belluno, con una buona formazione giuridica e appartenente a una famiglia di spicco della nobilta bellunese, si rivela un osservatore acuto e penetrante del reale, dotato peraltro di una felice capacita narrativa. Sebbene sia centrato su Belluno, il Chronicon, attentissimo a quanto accadeva altrove nell’Italia settentrionale e centrale cosi come nel mondo alpino, e una fonte di strepitosa ricchezza per lo storico che voglia addentrarsi nel profondo della vita urbana medievale, muovendosi sul filo degli eventi collettivi, domestici e individuali.
