English summary: The paintings of the landscape painter Carl Blechen (1798-1840) often have a stage-like quality. In this way, the artist explores the possibilities of the picture to depict reality. In this richly illustrated volume, Kilian Heck discusses questions of pictorial composition and pictorial space in Blechen’s work and sheds new light on his paintings and drawings.
