Wissenswertes über die Bedeutung und den Bedeutungswandel von Begriffen

Begriffe wie “Willkommenskultur”, “Asyl” oder “Islam” sind Bestandteil unseres taglichen Sprachgebrauchs und transportieren bestimmte Bedeutungen und Konnotationen. Was meinen daruber hinaus Ausdrucke wie “Rassismus”, “Migrationshintergrund” oder “Identitat”? Wie hat sich die Bedeutung der Termini “Kultur” oder “Moderne” im Lauf der Zeit verandert? Warum kann es problematisch sein, uber “Volk” und “Heimat” zu sprechen? Das kulturwissenschaftliche Glossar sensibilisiert Lesende fur den Gebrauch und die Bedeutung bestimmter Begriffe, legt deren historischen sowie gesellschaftspolitischen Bedeutungswandel dar und informiert uber derzeitige Verwendungsweisen. Aufgenommen wurden Begriffe, die in Medien, im Wahlkampf oder auch in Alltagsgesprachen wirkmachtig sind und gesellschaftliche Verortungen und Abgrenzungen vornehmen. Neben einer Kurzdefinition und Erorterung des aktuellen Gebrauchs, der Bedeutung und der Wirkung der einzelnen Begriffe behandeln die einheitlich aufgebauten Handbuchbeitrage Probleme im Umgang mit den jeweiligen Begriffen und beleuchten Veranderungen ihrer Bedeutung in der Wissenschaftsgeschichte. Ziel ist, die Geschichte des Wortgebrauchs aufzuzeigen und anhand von Beispielen die gesellschaftspolitische Instrumentalisierung zu verschiedenen Zeiten und die vielfach verkurzende Verwendung der Begriffe aufzuzeigen. Ein Fazit skizziert deren reflektierte Verwendungsweise.
