Considering his economic texts from the historic and the modern point of view, this work consider the peculiarity and the topicality of the thought of the author as well as the impact of diverse questions which this thought implies.

Cet ouvrage synthetise le theme de l'economie chez Gide. Le corpus principal choisi concerne les oeuvres ecrites au tournant du siecle, de Paludes (1895) a L'Immoraliste (1902), afin de montrer que l'interet de l'auteur pour l'economie n'est pas seulement sensible dans sa derniere periode, representee par Les Faux-monnayeurs (1926), mais egalement au debut de sa carriere. A l'epoque etudiee dans ce livre, l'ecrivain a acces a l'economie depensiere, sociale et monetaire. En replacant ses textes economiques dans le contexte historique de l'epoque et en les considerant du point de vue moderne, cette etude examine la singularite et l'actualite de la pensee de l'auteur ainsi que l'impact de diverses questions que celle-ci implique.
