Zürcher Bibel – The Zurich Bible extends back to Huldrych Zwingli and his circle of translators. Starting in 1524, various editions of the continuous translations were published, culminating, in 1531, in the printing of the German Folio Bible, the so-called Froschauer Bible. During the following centuries, the Zurich translation continued to be revised; between 1907 and 1931, a new translation from the base text took place. Its precise and sober language, as well as its proximity to the Urtext, make this translation a classic.

During the last 75 years, however, many changes have affected the language, the religious world, and theological research. In response, the Synod of the Protestant Reformed Church of Zurich decided in 1984 to commission a new translation: a scientifically sound and linguistically precise translation for the modern age that can be used in church service and the class room. This new translation of the Zurich Bible enables the modern-day reader to comprehend the Biblical texts without enforcing a way of interpretation, makes the Biblical texts accessible as documents that speak to us from a distant past, and highlights the Bible as the base text of Christian faith and as a literary work that surpasses every-day life.
