English summary: From the late 12th century onwards, a new intellectual writing culture developed at the emerging European universities. New teaching and learning structures made the book the central medium for the acquisition and transfer of knowledge. Using numerous illustrated manuscripts containing tracts of Aristotle and Aristotle’s commentaries in Latin translation, the author examines the importance of the visual organization of these codices with their characteristic ordinatio and page arrangement for processes of transmission and reception. Special attention is paid to the role of images in the manuscripts, which not only functioned as status symbols but also as highly efficient tools for scholars.
