La construction de la cathedrale Notre Dame de Senlis remonte au troisieme quart du XIIe siecle alors que la ville royale de Senlis connait un veritable “age d’or”. Profondement remanie aux XIIIe et XVIe siecles, l’edifice, de petite taille, ne jouit que d’une reputation relativement modeste comparativement a d’autres cathedrales gothiques. A defaut de l’harmonieuse homogeneite de Noyon ou de Laon, ses contemporaines, ou du gigantisme d’Amiens, Senlis n’en est pas moins un edifice majeur, temoin de toutes epoques de l’architecture gothique. En outre, elle offre une decoration que le nettoyage de 1987 a permis de mettre en valeur et renferme un mobilier tres riche, couvrant toutes les periodes de l’histoire de l’art. Ornee de creations contemporains, vitraux et maitre-autel, c’est une cathedrale vivante que le visiteur decouvrira.
