Epigrammatic poetry is one of the most productive and inventive poetic genres of Greek and Latin literature. While it favors an aesthetic of conciseness, it nevertheless draws a part of its material from the Iliad, the Odyssey or the Homeric Hymns, from which it resumes, reinvents, diverts and sometimes parodies episodes, verses, and words,. An international symposium held in Aix-en-Provence in 2012 highlighted the difficult question of the interactions between these very diverse poetic genres of aesthetic. At the confluence of two great fields of studythe reception of Homeric epics and epigramatic poetrythis colloquium contributed to a better understanding of the phenomena at work in the subtle play of literary allusion.
