“Reprasentationen der Macht” war der Titel des Festkolloquiums zu Ehren des 65. Geburtstags von Prof. Dr. Blagoje Govedarica, das vom 2. bis zum 3. Juni 2015 in Berlin stattfand. Der Bogen der Beitrage spannte sich von der Adria bis zum Kaukasus, also uber jene Raume, uber die Blagoje Govedarica grundlegende eigene Arbeiten beigesteuert hat. Der daraus hervorgegangene Band ist nicht nur eine Festschrift, sondern ein Beitrag zu einem Thema, das seit den Ausgrabungen von Heinrich Schliemann in Mykene, der meinte, in Schachtgrab IV die goldene Totenmaske des Agamemnon gefunden zu haben, aktuell ist. Die Reprasentation der Macht ist in der Archaologie ein leidenschaftlich diskutiertes Thema. Fur die Forschung des 19. und fruhen 20. Jahrhunderts. waren die Graber in den bronzezeitlichen Hugeln im Kaukasus, in den riesigen Kurganen der nordpontischen Steppe, den eisenzeitlichen Tumuli Italiens, Frankreichs und Deutschlands selbstverstandlich Bestattungen von Fursten oder Konigen. In den letzten 40 Jahren ist die politische und soziale Stellung der Bestattungen jedoch hinterfragt worden. Aus Sicht der neoevolutionistischen Geschichte politischer Organisationsformen wurden Begriffe wie Furst oder Konig obsolet. Big Men oder Chiefs traten an ihre Stelle. Aus machtigen Herrschern in goldreichen Grabern wurden vielerorts Vorsteher kleinerer Verwandtschaftsgruppen. Als besonders Fruchtbar erweist sich die lange Dauer in grossen Raumen, um die Persistenz und den Wandel, mancherorts auch den Zusammenbruch der Macht zu erkennen. Die Autorinnen und Autoren des Bandes, die schon seit vielen Jahren mit Blagoje Govedarica zusammenarbeiten, haben das Thema des Kolloquiums auf verschiedene Weise variiert.
