If the status of women evolved significantly between the classical and Hellenistic periods, if certain women played an important political role, can we say that in the Alexandrian poetic universe the place of women was transformed? This place of women in Alexandrian poetry concerns the modalities of female speech and the conditions in which a female discourse is pronounced. The 25 papers gathered here examine the political dimension of feminine discourse, the influence of women’s family status in their speech, the divinization of the woman of power, the woman as a figure of otherness, the intertextualities of feminine discourse marked by the memory of Sappho or Erinna, the feminine occupations and functions and their symbolic values, in particular the poetic activity assumed by female poets, and the use of Greco-Egyptian bi-culturalism in Hellenistic representations.
