English summary: The essays on Northwestern-Greece by Peter Funke, an outstanding expert about the ancient history of the landscapes of Epiros, Acarnania and Aetolia, are compiled in this volume. He takes us to the ‘home’ of the Acheloos River, which has influenced the landscapes not only in antiquity. Peter Funke has significantly expanded our knowledge about the political, cultural and the topographical structures in Northwestern-Greece, Funke deals also with the political development in that region, which were characterized in the ancient times by tribal and federal-states-structures. A particular focus is placed on the genesis of settlement structures in northwestern Greece and on the epigraphical material from that region. Peter Funke was able to draw on many experiences, which he made as an initiator and organizer of topographical-archaeological projects, which were carried out in cooperation with the Greek Antiquities Administration in two ancient cities in Acarnania, Stratos and Palairos. German description: Der Band versammelt die Aufsatze Peter Funkes zur Geschichte, Landeskunde und Epigraphik des antiken Nordwestgriechenland, der Heimat des Acheloos. Seit jeher hat dieser Fluss die Landschaften Epirus, Akarnanien und Aitolien maageblich gepragt, die lange Zeit eine eher marginale Rolle in den modernen Altertumswissenschaften gespielt haben. Zur Entdeckung dieses Teils des ›dritten Griechenland‹ hat Funke durch seine in diesem Band vorgelegten ausgewahlten Schriften aus drei Jahrzehnten einen markanten Beitrag geleistet. Befasst hat sich Funke in seinen Forschungen sowohl mit den politischen Organisationsformen dieser in der Antike zunachst von Stammen und dann von Bundesstaaten gepragten Region als auch mit den dort anzutreffenden Siedlungsstrukturen. Gekennzeichnet sind seine Studien nicht allein durch die profunde Kenntnis der literarischen, epigraphischen und numismatischen Zeugnisse sowie der archaologischen Hinterlassenschaften, sondern auch durch seine groae Vertrautheit mit der Landeskunde Nordwestgriechenlands.
