The paradigm shift in relation to the perception of animals also allows the animal to appear in its suchness – ’embodied’ – in literary and cultural studies research. With a view to the theory-centred paradigm displacing anthropocentrism, the volume aims (in this respect following Roland Borgard’s approach) to trace the cultural-historically conditioned change of animal images in the mirror of modern German literature: from the Middle Ages to the present.
