L’auteur mene une analyse de la perception, au travers des notions d’invisible et d’intangible, et envisage la possibilite d’une phenomenologie imaginaire – si ce n’est de l’imaginaire. Les anges, l’homme invisible, le yeti, Dracula, et meme aussi Dieu, ou bien les robots et les ordinateurs, sont en effet des etres possibles, qui ont de fait une portee ontologique et peuvent par suite enoncer une propriete de l’existence. La these est donc simple: notre imaginaire, depuis le debut du XIXe siecle, est structure par l’opposition entre deux figures, le vampire et la machine.
