English summary: At a time when general misgivings abound about the advances being made by conventional medicine -which seems to have exhausted its potential – alternativemedicines are booming and growing increasingly popular. Il s’agit ensuite de restituer la complexite de ces medecines alternatives, leurs themes de predilection, le portrait de leurs adeptes, le melange d’imaginaires et de rationalite qui traverse leurs discours et leurs pratiques.Ces analyses autorisent-elles a les rejeter comme des leurres, voire comme des impostures, ou, au contraire, encouragent-elles, sous certaines conditions, a plaider en faveur de leur reevaluation dans nos systemes de sante ? La question est abordee en fonction des grands defis de notre epoque et des mutations generales de la rationalite contemporaine.
