Unter den “Reformschriften” des 15. Jahrhunderts nimmt das Werk des Oberrheinischen Revolutionars wegen seiner thematischen Dichte, seiner argumentativen Offenheit und seiner didaktischen Konzeption eine besondere Stellung ein. Der Autor ist gelehrter Jurist, hat Zugang zu den gewaltigen, nimmt an Reichstagen teil und zeigt sich uber reichspolitische Interna ebenso informiert, wie er die Schwachen des “maximilianischen Systems” zu analysieren weiss. Sein Hauptaugenmerk gilt aber der zunehmenden Ungleichgewichtigkeit der Herrschaftsstrukturen, der Verwilderung der Rechtspraxis und der not des gemeinen mans: Zeitschaden, die eine Reform unabdingbar machen, soll dem inneren Zerfall des Reiches gesteuert werden. Der auch fur die rechts- und sprachgeschichtliche Forschung wichtige Text ist nach seiner Wiederentdeckung 1892 zuerst 1967 veroffentlicht worden und wird hier erstmals in einer kritisch erarbeiteten und ausfuhrlich kommentierten Edition vorgelegt.
