Wie konnen Medizin und Ethik die Umsetzung der Menschenrechte fordern?
Sixty years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, many questions still remain open regarding whether the values contained therein can become a universal reality. And for sixty years, physicians all over the world have been morally bound by the Declaration of Geneva to exercise their profession in accordance with the laws of humanity. Physicians are crucial to implementing the basic right to health as well as to offering humanitarian aid to the victims of human rights violations. But physicians are also prone to get trapped in conflicts of dual loyalty and to become accomplices to gross violations of those rights. The new series Medicine and Human Rights explores the links between medicine, ethics and human rights in historical, theoretical, and practical perspectives. In its first volume, selected issues regarding medical humanitarian work are discussed. Contributions focus on theoretical foundations of human rights as well as on a variety of examples of physicians involvement, both nationally and internationally. To underline its status as a sourcebook, the annex contains the most important international documents in the field of medical ethics and human rights. German text.
