English summary: Music played a key role in the politicization of society in the 19th and 20th century. As a form of expression and as a purveyor of political messages, music can be considered an emotional communicative event. In addition to encouraging conviviality, music also generates values and fosters identity and solidarity. The vision of a ‘German’ music as an aesthetic concept of identity had a potent impact in the societal redefinition of ‘German-ness’. But what characterises the “German-ness” in music? This volume examines the phenomenon in an interdisciplinary and transnational dialogue between the Revolution of 1848 and the Second World War. There emerges a panorama of societal and political inclusion and exclusion processes that occurred, transformed and were redefined through models of a propagated ‘German’ music and ‘power culture’ German description: Musik spielt bei der Politisierung der Gesellschaft im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert eine zentrale Rolle. Als Ausdrucksform und Tragerin von politischen Botschaften ist sie als emotionales Kommunikationsereignis zu deuten. Neben Geselligkeit generiert Musik auch Werte und stiftet Identitat und Solidaritat. Die Vision von einer deutschen Musik entfaltete als asthetischer Identitatsentwurf bei der gesellschaftlichen Neufindung des Deutschseins reale Wirkungsmacht. Doch was kennzeichnete das Deutsche in ihr? Dieser Band untersucht das Phanomen im interdisziplinaren und transnationalen Dialog zwischen 1848er-Revolution und Zweitem Weltkrieg. Es entsteht ein Panorama von gesellschaftlichen und politischen Inklusions- und Exklusionsprozessen, die sich durch Muster einer propagierten deutschen Musik- und Machtkultur ereigneten, wandelten und neu definierten.
