English summary: Countless images of Jesus of Nazareth have existed from the first centuries reckoned to be “after him” into the modern period. Most images represent him as a tall, fine-looking young man with long blond or brown hair and sporting a clipped beard, wearing an antique-looking robe or, in cases where he is shown either suffering and crucified or as he is resurrected from the grave, with a rather athletic body. Each and every depiction of Jesus bears witness in its own way to the fascination, which his physical appearance has exerted on artists from ancient times to the present.
