The first comprehensive die corpus of Umayyad post-reform gold coinage — an essential reference work in Islamic numismatics.
This volume documents all known gold dinars of the Umayyad Caliphate from AH 77 to AH 132 (696/697–749/750 AD), based on a dataset of 3,114 coins. The study identifies 1,905 obverse dies and 1,984 reverse dies through large-scale die-link analysis. The reconstruction of die chains and die relationships refines chronological sequences and contributes to a more precise understanding of production patterns within the Umayyad monetary system.
The volume includes a complete die corpus arranged by date, identification and mapping of die links and die chains, analysis of epigraphic formulas and their variations, high-quality illustrations supporting die comparison, and an apparatus facilitating cross-reference and citation. Intended for collectors, researchers, libraries, museums, universities, and auction houses specialising in Islamic numismatics.
