This volume compiles 64 scientific essays informing about the results of the Archaeological Research in Northwestern Greece and the Ionian Islands, according to the colloquium’s oral presentations held in November 2017.
Recent archaeological material and evidence are presented in three sections – Epirus, Aitoloakarnania, and the Ionian Islands. Extensive residential remains at various locations, cities, and smaller settlements, artifacts, inscriptions, coin hoards, etc. have been revealed during large excavation projects – especially along the axis of the Ionia Odos or in rescue ones in private plots. The finds compose a clear and complete picture of the residential development in those regions, and, at the same time, they provide valuable information not only concerning the private and public life in Antiquity but also for trade and cultural exchanges with the outside world. The book includes also information about the Restoration Projects in the ancient theatres of Gitana, Nicopolis, and Dodona as well as interventions in monuments of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine periods.
