Hair is found in many forms in many collections throughout the museum world, and can present various problems of preservation and conservation. The range of papers in this publication demonstrates the cross-disciplinary aspects of the use of hair – in textiles, ethnography and taxidermy specimens – as well as providing an insight into the complex chemistry of hair. It provides a useful resource for those working with objects made of or containing hair and aims to inform and inspire conservation and museum professionals and others associated with this type of object. A collection of papers from the 2014 ‘Conservation of Hair’ conference, using case studies to examine all aspects of the conservation of hair in museums today.
