Review - French Entre la deuxieme moitie du XVIIIsiecle et la premiere moitie du XIXsiecle, la poesie occidentale se transforme. Les poetes gagnent une liberte sans precedent : ils peuvent desormais ecrire de maniere obscure, enfreindre les regles du metre et de la syntaxe, renouveler le lexique, eliminer toute mediation entre leur personne biographique et le personnage qui dit je dans le texte. La poesie devient ainsi le genre le plus egocentrique de la litterature moderne - un art qui, dans sa forme typique, evoque des fragments autobiographiques dans un style subjectif. Alternant la reflexion theorique et l'analyse de textes exemplaires, l'auteur reconstruit les etapes de cette metamorphose et les interprete comme le symptome de mutations historiques profondes. Il est alors possible d'apporter un eclairage nouveau sur quelques-unes des questions les plus essentielles de la culture moderne : la crise de la tradition, la naissance de l'individualisme moderne, le statut de l'identite entre difference et homologation.
