Religion and Socio-Cultural Transformation
European Perspectives and Beyond
Religion and transformation in a nutshell: This book shows how both religious and secular movements are shaping the future together and influencing social change. Emerging from the 2025 EuARe Annual Conference at the University of Vienna and curated by the RaT Research Center (University of Vienna), this volume brings together interdisciplinary contributions on law, politics, religious studies, sociology/anthropology, philosophy, and theology. 23 authors address topics such as secularization, religious diversity, religious freedom, pluralism, digitalization, the climate crisis, migration, individualization, and interculturality. The case studies and perspectives range from Iran, India, and Côte d’Ivoire to Chile and the EU. The volume sheds light on conflicts between law, politics, and lived religion, opening up a space for a pluralistic dialogue on modern and contemporary religious phenomena and their transformation.
