Review - French De grands poetes europeens, a l'exemple de Goethe, Byron, Hugo, se sont engages dans la voie de la poesie et de l'orientalisme. Les traductions contemporaines ont suscite l'enthousiasme des romantiques pour des poetes arabes, persans ou indiens. L'orientalisme en poesie ne s'est pourtant pas impose comme un veritable courant esthetique, ainsi que ce fut le cas en peinture. En revanche, la fascination exercee par des poetes orientaux du passe a ete profondement associee a des valeurs que la modernite occidentale voulait promouvoir : vigueur primitive, imaginaire exotique, formes renouvelees. L'ouvrage suit le fil de ces echanges durant le XIXsiecle et jusqu'aux debuts, dans l'espace oriental, d'une poesie nationale moderne.
