2 711 Stelen aus Beton sind nun Teil der Stadt. Jede einzelne Stele hat ihre individuelle Hohe und Neigung in diesem Feld, das nun fur die Offentlichkeit zuganglich ist. Unterirdisch erstreckt sich der Ort der Information, der in verschiedenen Raumen den Holocaust anhand europaischer Schicksale greifbar macht. Nach langen Diskussionen ist das Denkmal fur die ermordeten Juden Europas nach den Planen des New Yorker Architekten Peter Eisenman eroffnet worden.
