The present work aims to reveal the main issues that characterised the Villaggio Matteotti and to contextualise them within the cultural, political and planning events of Giancarlo De Carlo. In this way we have tried to bring out the centrality of this work in the Italian architectural context after the Second World War. The philological reconstruction of the troubled story linked to the design and construction of the Terni district precedes the narration of some of the architectural themes dear to this author, as well as those fundamental to understanding the value of this intriguing experiment in collective housing: participation, collective living, the pedagogical value of space, the “multiple language”.
