Courtly mythologies and courtly knowledge orders are the central issues in this volume that brings together contributions from two colloquia held by the International Courtly Literature Society (ICLS). The main focus of the articles lies on mythical legitimization of power and of courtly ethics, on mythical principles of narration and on the distribution as well as hierarchization of knowledge in and about texts. The volume presents examinations of a wide range of texts from Wigalois and Herzog Ernst to Mauritius von Craun, also taking into consideration the Alexander romances, the late medieval romances on love and adventure and the French Chevalier au Papegau. In the context of the current research focus on myth and knowledge, the articles work towards new access to some of the major texts of medieval literature. German text.

German description: Dieser Band umfasst Beitrage von Martin Baisch, der die Neugier in Wolframs Parzival in den Blick nimmt, sowie von Anna Muhlherr, die sich den weiblichen Figuren des Parzival, aber auch des Eneasromans und der Artusepen Hartmanns unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Gelehrsamkeit und Magie widmet. Weitere Beitrage stammen von Sandra Linden, die die Tugendproben des arthurischen Romans zum Gegenstand ihrer Uberlegungen macht, und von Christine Putzo, die den Mauritius von Craun im Hinblick auf die narrative Konfiguration des paradoxe amoureux untersucht. Der Band setzt die Reihe Encomia Deutsch fort, die vom Vorstand der Deutschen Sektion der Internationalen Gesellschaft fur hofische Literatur (International Courtly Literature Society, ICLS) herausgegeben wird. Er vereinigt Beitrage der gleichnamigen Freiburger Tagung der ICLS aus dem Jahre 2006. Auch ausgewahlte Vortrage des 12. Internationalen Kongresses der ICLS in Lausanne und Genf 2007 haben Eingang gefunden.
