This anniversary volume completes and enriches the Catalogue of the exhibition “Glorious Victories. Between Myth and History” that was organized by the National Archaeological Museum in Athens  (20th October 2020 – 31st October 2021) on the event of 2,500th anniversary of the Battle of Thermopylae and the Naval Battle of Salamis.
The additional studies on known and unknown works from the Collections of the National Archaeological Museum presented here by eminent scholars focus on the concept of victory and its various facets “in history, art and life”.
The 16 essays of the edition address the various manifestations of the personified concept of Nike in ancient Greek art and present vividly in detail, in terse and highly expressive scientific language the multiple and diverse expressions of Nike. Known and unknown Nikai are presented: works of sculpture, coroplastic art, vase painting, metalworking, numismatics, minor arts.
