English summary: In this study, the author explores the question of whether women in antiquity and during the Middle Ages were able to engage in sporting activities. Even as early as the ancient cultures of the Egypt, Minoa and Mycenae, numerous iconographic sources speak of a culture of exercise amongst young women. In Greek culture, young women competed against each other in specially held races. Roman women especially took part in athletics, as well as in ball games and swimming. In the Middle Ages, a female culture of exercise becomes less prominent or undergoes very specific developments, such as trials by ordeal held in the form of duels.
