Die Philosophie des Mittelalters
Byzanz. Judentum
edited by Alexander Brungs, Georgi Kapriev and Vilem Mudroch
English Summary: The first part of the volume deals with the characteristics of philosophy in the Byzantine Empire and its development within its religious-cultural context. The book concisely presents the biographies, works and doctrines of the thinkers who advanced this development. The second part comprises the comprehensive article Methodengeschichtlicher Aufriss zur Historiographie der Philosophie im Judentum (A Methodological-Historical Outline of the Historiography of Jewish Philosophy). It places the works of Jewish philosophers into their intellectual-historical contexts and reflects on “Jewish philosophy” as subject matter of historiography as well as on the appropriate mode of its presentation.
