Die Studie weist nach, dass die um 1870 verfassten Darstellungen der Konterrevolution in Form einer familienmetaphorischen Schreibweise auf die seinerzeitigen soziopolitischen Spannungen reagieren.

The French counter-revolution of the 1790s was largely disregarded in 19th-century historiography. For this reason, the conflicts are of particular interest to the literary sphere, which extensively focuses on this historical matter around 1870, i.e. in the late Second Empire and the early Third Republic. The relevant novels express the realization that the initially provisional republic is in danger of collapsing just like its historical model. Against this background, Patrick Teichmann argues that the literary scene around 1870 attempted to come to terms with the historical circumstances and to present imaginary solutions for the future of the nation by comparing it to metaphorical families.
