This volume is the first to provide a fundamental overview of institutional history and theory for the period after 1945, when important photography collections were first established in for example Essen and Munich. German descriptions: Aktuell wird uber die Etablierung eines Bundesinstituts fur Fotografie diskutiert – welche Institutionen und Einrichtungen fur Fotografie gab und gibt es aber bisher in Deutschland und wie arbeiten sie mit Fotografie, bzw. wie wurde Fotografie durch sie gepragt? In diesem Band wird erstmals ein grundlegender institutionsgeschichtlicher und -theoretischer Uberblick fur die Zeit ab 1945 gegeben, als zuerst u.a. in Essen und Munchen wichtige Fotosammlungen entstanden. Vielstimmig wird in Einzelbeitragen, Gesprachen und uber kunstlerische Positionen dokumentiert, wie fotografische Bilder klassifiziert, gesammelt, ausgestellt, archiviert und vermarktet wurden und werden. Eine Zeitleiste liefert einen systematischen chronologischen Uberblick zur Institutionalisierung der Fotografie.
