Ceci est un livre sur Shaftesbury. Ce n’est pas un livre sur Kant. Neanmoins le texte de Shaftesbury ne nous est devenu comprehensible que par une longue frequentation de Kant, de la Critique de la faculte de juger plus precisement. En se gardant de batir une interpretation kantienne, recontruction toujours artificielle, il faut se rendre a cette evidence d’ordre historique : ce qui fut le germe d’une pensee nouvelle en 1712, ou lors des premieres traductions allemandes des Caracteristiques, nous est devenu imperceptible, de par le phenomene de la croissance. Le grain meurt dans ce qui nait de lui.
