Citerne el-Nabih (Alexandrie)
Le mobilier céramique issu des fouilles

La citerne el-Nabih, situee dans le centre-ville d’Alexandrie au croisement de la rue Sultan Hussein et de la rue Constantin Sinadino, se trouvait a l’interieur des murailles de la cite medievale et un magasin d’artillerie construit, selon toute vraisemblance, au XIXe siecle y a ete adosse. Aujourd’hui entierement enterree, elle comprend un reservoir d’une capacite de 1000 m3, amenage sur trois niveaux. Cinq campagnes de fouilles menees par Laurent Borel et Samuel Dessoutter, entre 2006 et 2009, aux abords immediats de la citerne ont replace cet edifice dans son contexte urbain et determine les differentes phases de la citerne. L’etude du mobilier ceramique place la construction de l’edifice a l’epoque ayyoubide, et non a l’epoque toulounide, comme on le proposait jusque la et determine les dates de ses differentes refections. Un rare ensemble d’ostraca, presente par Frederic Bauden, pourrait correspondre a une forme de document attestant du montant qui etait du aux macons qui ont construit la citerne. Ces recherches mettent egalement en lumiere la richesse de la vaisselle commune, vraisemblablement d’origine locale ou regionale, d’epoque medievale, face aux rares elements importes de Mediterranee orientale, du Maghreb ou d’Extreme-Orient.
