Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht

Founded in 1735, V&R quickly became a leading university press, publishing works by Göttingen’s renowned professors, including Albrecht von Haller and Johann David Michaelis. By 1840, the company focused on theology, philology, pharmacology, and textbooks, expanding its theological and philological offerings by the late 19th century. Today, V&R’s core program includes academic literature on theology, history, classical studies, philosophy, literature, and linguistics. Additionally, it offers practical literature for fields like human resources, psychological counseling, church work, and education, as well as textbooks for subjects like Latin, Greek, religion, and ethics.
